Honoring a construction site near the runways of Orly airport subject to height restrictions within the meaning of article L6351-1 of the transport code. Fixed obstacles (temporary or permanent) in areas encumbered with aeronautical height limites are deemed to be a danger to air navigation and are therefore prohibited. CAD.42's RTK.42 system is implemented to help crane operators stay within the allowable ceiling.
Context
Line 18 is an upcoming Grand Paris Express metro line. 35 kilometers long, it will connect the Orly Airport stations to Versailles Chantiers, passing through the Massy-Palaiseau station. Société du Grand Paris awarded the construction contract for lot 1 to a consortium led by VINCI Construction Grands Projets.
The current construction site of the Orly Union structure (OA2) on line 18 (lot 1) is an ancillary structure consisting of an underground building and a shaft offset from the route of the tunnel and connected to the latter by a branch.
The purpose of this structure will be to provide an emergency exit in the event of problems in the tunnel. It will also provide track access for maintenance teams.
Guillaume Lhermite, OA2 site manager on the Ligne 18 project (lot 1) at Chantiers Modernes Construction (subsidiary of VINCI Construction France) explains the context:
“Since our site is located in the immediate vicinity of the runways of Orly airport, a height limit called an “aeronautical easement” is imposed. This limit is located 12m above our work platform.”
The challenge is therefore to ensure that the lifting equipment complies with the regulatory limit.

RTK.42 magnetizes to the boom head of the mobile crane. The absolute height is calculated with centimeter precision every second. One-week battery life allows for daily, continuous use.

How it works ?
The tablet informs the crane operator when the height of the jib head approaches the aeronautical service area by a voice message. In the immediate vicinity of the threshold, an audible alert replaces the voice message to signify the immediate danger. All alerts are logged and viewable on the Unifield online application.
